Criteria for a good article to get high ratings from readers

1. The title of article is appropriate to content in the article.

2. Information is factual and accurate.

3. Information is original. If you include elements of another’s writing, give credit to the source with a link to the original article.

4. The article is written in the third person ideally ("Travelers will enjoy...") rather than the first person ("I really like). The exception to this would be if you are writing a personal travel story.

5. The article is well written. Check for typos and improper wording.

6. The article is entertaining & engaging to read; readers can sense your passion or involvement in the topic.

7. Useful & relevant information is given. There is no personally insulting language or descriptions. This is not a forum for general political, ethical or religious opinions.

8. The article contains a great tip for saving money or time.

9. The article explained something you expect readers always wondered about.

10. The article explained some way to use the DTI portal for readers’ benefit. Relevant links to other DiscoverTheIslands.com pages are helpful.

Appropriate content for travel articles

• Travel articles are for useful information, helpful hints about an area of travel and are not restricted to travel to island destinations.

• Your authentic travel experiences - the little things, surprises, glitches, need-to-knows. For example, you have just arrived at the airport. How do I get to town?

• Travel articles cover general tourist advice, dive shops, interesting stores, attractions, things to do and restaurants in a particular destination.

• How to use the DTI portal or find things on the portal. We have many Travel Resources you can write about, for instance.

• Ways to save time & money while booking travel online.

Travel articles are not:

• Reviews, nor are they discussion boards.

• For use as chat rooms.

• To be used as advertisements. If you are writing about favorite restaurants or a dive shop for example, include three or more references to comparable businesses.

• Editorial pages. Do not submit articles stating political, religious, ethical arguments or opinions. Kindly limit articles to travel-related material.

• A place for questions you may want answered by another traveler. Such questions should be put in the Forum.

• For posting a review of a travel article. If you’d like to suggest a change to an article, write to DTI and we’ll relay your point to the article writer.

• For posting photos. You can post photos in the Forum and put a link to your Forum story or opinion in the article. At the moment, you cannot add photos to articles but you can put photos in the Forum.

Accuracy of content in articles

It is possible that something in an article is a bit inaccurate. If you believe that is so then do the writer a favor by sending DTI a note with the correct information or question. We’ll send a note to the article writer asking them to check their facts. The more accurate the information in an article, the more highly it will be rated by readers and the quicker the article writer will earn a Discover Dollar Voucher. DTI encourages a writer to make changes to your article if you receive a note from us that something may not be correct, is out-of-date or needs revision.
